Kofi Annan, former Secretary-General of the United Nations and Nobel price laureate, was able to start his international diplomatic career by virtue of a grant. For this reason he has initiated the Kofi Annan Business Schools Foundation. Utrecht University of Applied Sciences is one of the founding partners of the Kofi Annan Business Schools. The form and content of Entrepreneurship for Developing Areas has been inspired by this initiative. Some of the students in the programs at the Kofi Annan Business Schools will be "Kofi Annan Fellows": talented young people from developing countries who have been awarded a grant by the Kofi Annan Business Schools Foundation. Without such financial support, these students would not be able to enter higher education such as the Entrepreneurship for Developing Areas at Utrecht University.
