HZ University of Applied Sciences offers a Chemistry Bachelor programme. In the first two years of this four-year program, students become acquainted with the professional field and get to do courses in general chemistry and biology.
After familiarising with the professional possibilities and the study programme in the first two years, students will choose one of the two Majors 'Applied Chemistry' or 'Life Sciences', which consists of one semester specialization in these fields of study.
After this, students choose a Minor semester in consultation with their personal study coach and based on both their interests and the qualifications they have developed so far. Minor courses will allow students to broaden their knowledge in the field of their studies by following courses outside but still in coherence with their Major. Students may also choose a Minor which will allows them to obtain a deeper understanding of the topics of the Major in which they have particularly interest.
The Chemistry study programmes provide students with theoretical education but focusses on practical components. To help students understand how research centres and companies operate, the last study year will be in company. The first semester consists of gaining experience and putting in practice knowledge and practical skills in a research or R&D department of a chemical, pharmaceutical or nutritional company. During the second semester students will have to carry out a research project and report on its results.
