Certificate III in Spoken and Written English
The Certificate III in Spoken and Written English is a general English course designed for students, typically IELTS level 4, who wish to improve their English language proficiency for study, work or travel. The flexible nature of the Certificate enables students to focus on general English skills development or to focus on particular areas such as listening, speaking, reading or writing, depending on the needs of the individual student.
The content of the English program reflects the needs and aspirations of the students, therefore for those students continuing on to Certificate or Diploma courses in Commercial Cookery/Patisserie or Hairdressing resources from these programs are used extensively in their English classes. Students study the vocabulary and acquire the skills required to be successful in their chosen courses. Instruction is based on the theory of language which relates language to the contexts in which it is used, hence lessons are designed to provide students with "real life" communication situations and to promote the development of autonomous language learning. The providing of a solid knowledge base for transition into further education ensures that students are ready to meet the challenges faced when studying internationally.
In order to receive the Certificate in Spoken and Written English III a student must complete seven modules. In the event that the student does not complete all 7 modules a Statement of Attainment is issued for any modules completed. On completion of the Certificate III in Spoken and Written English students may enrol in the Certificate IV in Spoken and Written English (Further Studies).
