Haryana Agricultural University was founded in 1970 and was named Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, in 1991. The University strives for excellence in fulfilling all three missions of a comprehensive land grant institution: teaching, research and extension. When this university was created, it did not have to start from scratch. The College of Veterinary Medicine, Agriculture, Basic Sciences & Humanities were already in existence - the first two were housed in their own respective buildings and the third one in a part of the building of College of Agriculture. The College of Animal Science building was under construction, but animal sheds and poultry houses for this college had been completed and were in use. At present the integrated programme of teaching, research and extension education is followed through its 9 constituent colleges, 10 Regional Research Stations, 20 Krishi Gyan and Vigyan Kendras and 6 Disease Investigation Laboratories located in various districts of the State. The Haryana Agricultural University has 6475 acres of land under farms 736 acres of land under buildings and roads and 1453 acres of land at outstations for research purposes in different districts of Haryana.

The foundation stone of the College of Agriculture, Kaul was laid down on Nov. 18, 1971. The local panchayat donated land for the Agricultural School, which later on became a college. The university developed excellent facilities for research & teaching. A lot of recreation facilities are available on this campus. At the same time, keeping in view the university's plan to promote agricultural production, including animal husbandry through research and extension education it was also decided to promote this college for rice research. It has now become a regional campus of the university.

The college of Basic Sciences & Humanities caters to the needs of basic science education, languages and social sciences to the students of undergraduate level of different colleges. The college also offers postgraduate education in different faculties.

I.C. College of Home Science aims at enhancing the standard of individuals in general and rural families in particular through teaching, research and extension activities. The college was established in 1973 with a broad objective of catering to the educational needs of girls, besides preparing them for their future roles.

The Computer Centre is located in the College of Basic Sciences & Humanities building with a total covered area of aprox. 10,000 sq. ft. It has 8 rooms (seminar room, staff room, incharge's room, software development lab, server and switch room, Network Lab, Teaching lab etc.). The Computer Centre has, at present one MICRO32 Unix machine, around 60 P-IV PCs and different kinds of printers for the use of faculty and students as well as for its staff. Two Sun Ultra 450 servers, three X235 IBM servers running the Solaris operating system are being used for internet connectivity.

The Haryana Agricultural University has a 50 bed well equipped hospital at the main campus at Hisar and Dispensaries at three outstations - College of Agriculture, Kaul, Regional Research Station, Bawal and Regional Research Station, Karnal. The Medical Services are provided to the students, employees and their dependents, and participants from the Army.
