Karlskrona, home to the Blekinge Institute of Technology, is a small city in the south-east coast of Sweden, and is famous for being the Sweden’s only baroque city and hosting the Sweden’s only naval base, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. It was founded in 1680, and it’s name means Charles’ Crown.
Besides the naval base and being the Sweden’s only baroque city, the most attractive touristic facts are that its market place is the second biggest in Europe, after the Moscow’s Red Square; that it has the Sweden largest wooden church; and that the city is surrounded by an archipelago of more than 1600 islands and skerries on one side, and incredible nature reserves in the other.

Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH) is the most distinctly profiled institute in Sweden, thank to its strong emphasis on applied information technology, IT and sustainable development of industry and society. BTH is the only one of four institutes in south-east Sweden that has earmarked funding for research and graduate programmes in technological disciplines. Blekinge Institute of Technology has also been granted the right to award MScEng degrees. Some 25% of full-time students are from other parts of the world, the majority from Asia and Africa.
