Students describe Aberdeen, home to the University of Aberdeen, as having an unrivalled social scene, with our Students’ Association funding more than 150 clubs and societies, including one of the largest numbers of sports clubs in a Scottish university. There is also a wide variety of cultural, political, spiritual, theatrical and subject-based societies for students, which all hold regular events. A well established international society organises events for students from around the world.
Students also enjoy the University’s superb environment alongside magnificent countryside and seascape, in a city that offers something to suit all tastes in arts, culture, leisure and entertainment. Aberdeen, Scotland's third largest city, is a prosperous and attractive city of 220,000, and a place with a lively combination of historic charm, thriving economy and cosmopolitan community.
Big enough for the ’big city’ experience, student-friendly Aberdeen is still small enough to make it easy for students to find their way around and make friends. From the bustling city centre it is just a short distance to the tranquillity of the nearby hills and countryside in one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland. Aberdeen also boasts miles of golden sandy beaches, so students can have lectures in the morning and ski in the afternoon, or sail, windsurf, hill climb, canoe – the list is endless!
At night Aberdeen really lights up with a nightlife second to none. There is a huge variety of pubs and clubs on offer, and a vibrant music scene includes regular major tours by the biggest names around.
