
The
Bachelor of Fine Arts, Major in Ceramics program offers students an opportunity to explore the media and practices of ceramics. You will learn the theoretic part of the art of ceramics and at the same time develop your productive skills.
Through four years of study the undergraduate students of NSCAD University learn to solve problems, communicate visually with a variety of tools and techniques, and think critically in an environment that encourages individual expression.
All
Undergraduate programs at NSCAD University start with a foundation year where you will be able to choose 2 out of 5 courses that fits your interests along with the compulsory foundation courses such as, Design, Film, Paint & Print and Intermedia. You will also take two semesters of drawing and the liberal arts courses, Introduction to Visual Culture and Writing for the Arts.
A second year of interdisciplinary studies follows and encourages students to delve more deeply into specific disciplines. When you get to your third year you will be able to declare your major and proceed to advanced level classes in your field.
Your third and fourth-year will contain individualized research through studio and academic projects, there is also the opportunity to participate in an off campus study program -- NSCAD offers exchanges at art schools in 15 other countries as far away as Korea and Mexico. In your final year of the program you are also encouraged to prepare an exhibition of your work at the university gallery or at another appropriate venue.
Studying Ceramics at NCAD University you will get the chance to work in amazing facilities holding 5 high efficiency custom Blaauw kilns that are fully computer automated, a vast selection of potters' wheels, a grinding station, a 60 ton Ram press in a dedicated operating room with various steel die frames and 2 plaster/clay drying booths. You will also work in a fully equipped glaze kitchen. Students of the
Bachelor of Fine Art, Major in Ceramic program will be fully equipped for a future working life.
