bachelor of engineeringThe Bachelor of Engineering (Computer & Communications Engineering) programme prepares students for a rewarding professional career as a communications and IT engineering specialist in a very wide range of manufacturing, service and public sector organisations. The Bachelor degree is accredited by the national professional engineering organisation, Engineers Ireland.

The programme addresses the need to provide appropriate, key, technical professionals and offers the prospect of valuable career opportunities due to national and international organisation’s demand for a new range of engineering development skills.
Combining elements of electronic, software and communications engineering and associated hardware appropriate to the merging of technologies encountered in today’s ICT systems, the Bachelor of Engineering programme consists of practical project and laboratory work. An emphasis is placed on the development of application-oriented design and development skills and in-depth knowledge relevant to the needs of high-tech ICT producers, advanced system providers and operators.

The programme gives student the choice of two different work placement options;

  • Students can either spend 6 months of continuous placement in a company, in Ireland or abroad, in the second semester of the third year.
  • They can also choose to spend two consecutive days per week, of placement within industry in the final two years of the programme. INTEL, ESB, AVAYA, VILICOM, HEAnet and Ericsson are all companies participating on this internship programme and quite often

The entry requirements for the Bachelor of Engineering (Computer and Communication Engineering) are:

The Dublin Institute of Technology offers block booked, suitable student accommodation with external providers.  This accommodation particularly helps students coming to Dublin for the first time to quickly settle into college life and becoming familiar with Dublin city. Students are able to make group bookings in order to live with friends.

The accommodation is fully equipped and fitted as well as being served with good transport links to DIT campuses. Students can benefit from free internet provision and have the flexibility of available alternative accommodation, should they be unhappy with their allocated residence. DIT provides a residential assistant in each complex to assist students as well as onsite security. All accommodation is wheelchair accessible.
