The School of Information Technology at Monash South Africa is part of the Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University. With more than 3 000 students in six schools, Monash University has one of the largest Information Technology faculties in the world.

Professional Recognition Information Technology degree programmes offered by Monash South Africa are accredited by the South African Higher Education Quality Committee (HEQC) and the Australian Computer Society (ACS). 

Students who graduate with Monash Information Technology degrees can be assured of obtaining a degree that is globally relevant. The curriculum of these degrees reflect the recommendations of global associations such as the Association for Computing (ACM), the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and Association for Information Systems AIS.*

The Bachelor of Computing and Information Sciences programme offers three major streams:

  • Application Development and Networks
  • Business Systems
  • Internet Systems

Double majors

Each major may be combined with a second major, to enhance your career opportunities. A double major is achieved in the same time as a single major, by substituting elective units for the core units of the second major.

Application and qualification

To be eligible for entry into an undergraduate degree programme at Monash South Africa, students must hold one of the following:

  • the South African Senior Certificate (SAFCERT) endorsingthatthestudent has met the minimum requirements foruniversityentranceinSouth Africa; or the South African NationalSeniorCertificate (NSC);or
  • a certificate issued by the Matriculation Board exempting the student from having to obtain SAFCERT certification; or
  • GCE A Levels; or
  • the International Baccalaureate Diploma; or
  • relevant post-secondary qualifications; or
  • other international qualifications deemed to be equivalent to the above (subject to university approval).
  • English is the language of instruction and assessment at Monash South Africa. Students must meet specific English requirements in order to be eligible for admission.
  • Monash selects students according to academic merit.

Monash South AfricaMonashOpened in 2001, Monash South Africa is a campus of the Monash University, Australia and is located in Ruimsig, 25 kilometres northwest of Johannesburg city centre. It is fully owned by Monash University and is one of eight campuses worldwide which collectively teach almost 60,000 students.

Sports facilities on campus include two basketball/netball courts and a large multi-purpose playing field.
