Study to teach in Elementary SchoolsThe Bachelor in Elementary Education at Springfield College in Massachusetts in the USA educates its students to respect all aspects of themselves and others in body, mind and spirit – providing them with the skills and confidence needed to reach every child. Bachelor in Elementary Education-graduates successfully teach in settings ranging from inner city urban to suburban and rural schools.
Classrooms provided by Springfield's partner elementary schools are available to students enrolled in this Bachelor in Elementary Education so they may practice student teaching. This allows students to gain experience, gaining the skills to use “responsive” classroom, teaching across the curriculum, mainstreaming special needs children, and “understanding by design.” Springfield's partner school teachers are recognized at the local, state, and national levels for their leadership and teaching excellence.
Preparation for becoming elementary teachers begins in the first year of the Bachelor in Elementary Education. Each week, students work with elementary children from one of our partner schools. Working in pairs, they prepare and lead lessons in science to a group of twelve children. The experience with elementary children continues each year of the Bachelor in Elementary Education, through year four, at which time they enter the next phase - student teaching.
