The BA (Hons) Film: Video Production and Film Studies offers you an exciting opportunity to pursue a comprehensive course in both film and video. The course provides you with an in-depth knowledge of film theory, including established industry conventions, and new and innovative approaches to video production. Its design has been carefully crafted so that the theoretical film elements complement and underpin your video practice at every stage of the course. By drawing together both theory and practice, you will be able to explore the subject in depth, broaden your range of skills and improve your overall experience in the variou disciplines necessary to be successful in either context: the theoretician with vital practical knowledge; the practitioner with invaluable theoretical insight.

It is this dual emphasis that sets our honours degree apart from traditional film courses. We encourage academic enquiry, alongside significant hands-on practice using cutting edge technology.

Application and qualification

BA (Hons): 160 UCAS tariff points, normally in a minimum of two subject areas. We expect a percentage of these to be at GCEA/VCE A Level. Points generated by GCE AS/VCE AS Level and key skills qualifications will be considered.
IB Points: BA (Hons) 28, DipHe: 24-26.
BTEC National Diploma: Merit
Access: Pass, plus GCSE English Grade C or above.

International students need to meet our English language requirement at either IELTS at 5.5 or above, TOEFL paper based test score at 525 or above, TOEFL computer based test score at 196 or above, TOEFL internet based test score at 69 or above. Career progression
Upon successful completion of The BA (Hons) Film: Video Production and Film Studies students will be creative and critical practitioners who can enter the TV, film or video sector in any capacity. As well as having a good understanding of a specialised area of their choice, students will also have an excellent overview of all jobs and how they connect with one another. This will enable them to identify important working relationships within this sector and give deeper insights into effective team working. Students will have both technical and theoretical skills, but will primarily be a creator of content, and can consider careers such as film/video journalists, writers, directors, producers, directors of photography, production designers, editors and sound designers.
