This BA (Hons) Digital Animation Specialist provides the opportunity to study traditional animation principles using digital technology. Students will receive a thorough grounding in the principles of animation and will be encouraged to develop both creatively and technically. Students are expected to gain proficiency in a wide range of digital media to create their own unique style. Digital Animation covers a broad spectrum and is appropriate for those aspiring to start their own business, for those intending to apply for funding for their own projects and for those who wish to gain employment in the animation, film or broadcast industries.
Students are encouraged to develop their work for their intended medium, for example, games, the internet, film, TV and multimedia. Traditional animation skills are tailored to a diverse range of digital media. Students will gain experience in both 2D and 3D animation skills, reflecting the wide range of employment opportunities. Knowledge of the wider context of animation ensures that the programme is targeted appropriately to the industry.
The philosophy of this Digital Animation course is to gain an understanding of the animation process as a whole. Students will develop their own creativity and style and will also develop their own solutions through problem solving whilst developing their intellectual skills. Learning specific software skills are not enough in these days of fast changing technology. Students need to learn the software, but also need to learn how to learn, how to relate to different technologies and how to adapt and change as the world changes. Students also need solid foundations and key concepts that will transfer across any changes in technology or industry practices. For example, the ability to make a presentation or plan and manage a project, is a skill that will stay with you for life. Learn the principles of animation and you can apply those to any animation technology. This is a skill that will last a lifetime.
