Description of Melbourne and accommodation
Melbourne is a multicultural city of 3.5 million people, and the 2nd largest city in Australia. It was founded as a British colony on the mouth of the Yarra River in 1835, and gained independence from New South Wales in 1850. In recent years, Melbourne has been voted numerous times amongst the world's most liveable cities for its well-developed infrastructure. Sports, festivals, and fashion are popular in this sporting and cultural capital of Australia. The warm climate, safe environment, and reasonable living costs make Melbourne an ideal place to study. In addition, roughly 50,000 international students currently live in Melbourne, making it a city full of excitement and culture. 
Students at Australian Catholic University who live away from their families often share apartments or houses with other students. Although ACU does not provide on-campus residential accommodation (except for the Ballarat Campus), its International Education Office can assist students in finding accommodation suitable for their needs.
