Description of Architectural Technology

Architectural_Technology1Students who successfully complete the first two years of the three-year Architectural Technology program at Centennial College have the opportunity to apply to graduate from the two-year Architectural Technician program.

The Architectural Technology program prepares students for different careers in the construction industry, working with architects, engineers, builders, contractors and municipal building departments. The education uses state-of-the-art computer technology to prepare designs, construction drawings and specifications needed to communicate with clients, construction professionals and approval authorities.

Different student activities include preparing drawings for residential, industrial, commercial and institutional building types. Students in this program are introduced to building materials, construction methods, structural design, mechanical and electrical services, building codes, contracts, specifications, and the business environment for providing design and construction services.

The program places a strong emphasis on protecting the environment, energy conservation and sustainable design and construction strategies.

There is also a fast-track version as well as a co-op option of this program.

Application and qualification

Qualifications for admission:

Centennial College expects students who are applying for admission to certificate or diploma programs to present at minimum: Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent or be 19 years of age or older. Possession of minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission to program.

Academic Requirements for the Architectural Technology program:
- compulsory English 12C or U or skills assessment, or equivalent
- math 11M or U, or 12C or U or skills assessment, or equivalent

Centennial College does not charge an application fee, it is free.

You can then submit your educational transcripts to our International Education Centre by mail, fax or scan copies by e-mail. The college would require your high school transcripts and also your college or university transcripts. Please note that the transcripts you send us must be attested. Once these documents are received, they will be reviewed and an admission decision will be made.

Program graduates are eligible to join the Association of Architectural Technologists of Ontario (AATO) and the Ontario Association for Applied Architectural Sciences (OAAAS).

Graduates from the Architectural Technology program find creative and professionally rewarding careers working with architects, architectural technology firms, engineers, builders, contractors, developers, construction material manufacturers and suppliers and municipal building departments. Employers of previous graduates include Cassidy & Company, Architectural Technologists, Hunt Design Associates Inc, SNC Lavalin Nexacor and Viljoen Architect Inc.
