Description of AP-degree in marketing

AP Degree in MarketingThe AP Degree In Marketing (Market Economist) study programme consists of compulsory core subjects; Marketing, Organisation, Languages and Economics - which are common for all the majors - via a unique combination of theory and practice. Then goes on to Major-specific subjects, optional subjects and a practical placement, a special study period and a final project.

The IBA offers the following choice of study majors:

1. International
2. Management
3. Communication and Experience economy
4. ADvisor

The majors International and Management are taught in English.

The theme of the first semester for all of the majors relates to the company's strategic situation. The focus is on analysis of the company's present situation, organisation and financial situation etc. as the basis of future strategic decisions. The student also learns scientific methods and theory, enabling the student to work at an academic level with rather complex problems

In the second semester the theme is preparing strategies, where the student, based on first semester's analytical tools must be able to make strategies for the company's development and growth on the home market as well as on international markets. Besides this, there is focus on development of the student's social competences in cooperating with foreign cultures and methods for conducting market analyses.

The third semester continues with implementing strategies chosen in the second semester. It is also the purpose of this semester to give the student the necessary competences to navigate in a globalised world.

The fourth semester contains internship/specialisation module and the final project.

The teaching methods contain, class room teaching, lectures, dialogue teaching, exercises, case work, presentations, seminars, guest lecturers, projects, and internship. Teaching at the AP Degree In Marketing (Market Economist) programme always tries to incorporate the latest knowledge and results from national and international research as well as from the business community.

Application and qualification

Students educated outside Denmark should have a suitable upper-secondary (16-19) qualification, corresponding for example to UK A-Level or USA High School equivalent or appropriate other qualifications/background, for example acquired from working experience.

Additionally, students must have a level of competence in English (or Danish) and Mathematics in order to cope with the study requirements of the programme.

For students who do not meet the mathematics requirement, a supplementary remedial course is offered - contact the IBA for further details.

Management Major

Students work with leadeship, management, HR and also the most well-known analytical materials. This provides both a theoretical and practical insight into the way an organisation functions effectively. A practical work placement (internship) is connected to the final project in Semester 4.

Organisation, Value Chain Management, Project Management, Global Economics, Design, IT.

Management Major subjects:
Human Resource Management, Leadership, Leadership in Practice and Strategic Management.

After graduating, students who have chosen this Major could typically find employment as personnel consultants, project managers or consultants.

International Major

Subjects specific to this Major is International sales and export, Purchasing, International Marketing, Outsourcing/offshoring.

The focus of the International Major is on the Global
Value Chain. Today companies are intensely involved in the globalisation process and therefore the major concentrate on obtaining an understanding of how modern companies act in international business.

The aim is to get practical and theoretical insight into the essential key success factors in a modern competitive world market.

This means learning about outsourcing, off-shoring
and purchasing which are essential to master in today's competition. It also means knowing how cultural differences affect marketing decisions, and it means detailed knowledge of international sales and exporting, which are still key competencies in international business.

After graduating, students who have chosen this Major could typically find employment as, for example, marketing co-ordinators, export co-ordinators, sales managers, purchasers, key account managers or project managers.

Expenses

EU citizens and citizens of Liechtenstein, Iceland, Switzerland and Norway are automatically eligible for free tuition. This can also apply to students from other countries who have Danish residency. Citizens from other countries who are not eligible for free tuition pay 60,000 Danish Kroner (DKK) per year (total for the two years 120,000 DKK). The fee for the first year must be paid upon enrolment. The fee for the second year must be paid before the end of Semester 2 in the first year.

Books and study supplies normally fall in the range of 6000-7000 Danish kroner, this includes books that are compulsary reading for the programme.

International students are expected to be able to support themselves during their stay studying in Denmark. Danish and some foreign students with longterm Danish residency are eligible for a grant (SU) covering part of the living costs, another source of possible financial support is sholarships. However, please be aware that with the exception of the above, grants and scholarships for international students are usually very hard to come by in Denmark.

The higher education department of The International Business Academy evolved from the merging of a number of smaller schools over the past 100 years. The Academy is now offering offering students the opportunity to undertake practical work placements and study exchanges throughout the world as an integral part of their study.

The Academy offers a firm theoretical foundation in a unique combination of theoretical study with practical experience, the opportunity for the student to develop into a professional, competent, enthusiastic and internationally oriented individual and a study environment which is globally and innovative oriented.

As part of the introduction programme which also include a buddy- and tutor programme, the IBA offers exchange and international students a Danish language crash course. The purpose of the course is to learn some basic Danish language. In addition, throughout the stay at the IBA exchange and international students can sign up for an e-learning based Danish language course.

In co-operation with IBA students, staff, course managers and advisers from around the world, IBA has a quality-assurance process designed to maintain and improve standards in the various components of our programme delivery including: Teaching, work placements, projects, facilities and resources. Currently, there are approximately 350 students on IBA programmes. Students come from Denmark as well as abroad and they themselves form the basis for an interesting, attractive and international study environment. Locally, regionally, nationally and globally, The International Business Academy is today synonymous with high-quality international business education.

Kolding

Kolding is one of Denmark’s 10 largest towns, with a population of 60.000 it is situated in the so-called ‘Golden Triangle’- Denmark’s fastest-growing industrial region outside the Greater Copenhagen. Kolding is also arguably the country’s best located town when it comes to road, rail and air transport, Denmark’s second largest airport, Billund, is 30 minutes away, and there are frequent inter-city trains from Kolding station to all the major cities. The German border is close by and Hamburg just 2 hours away.

Kolding has around 3000 students in various higher education institutions apart from the IBA, and therefore the town offers an especially good social atmosphere for students. Despite its modest size, Kolding has cafés, discotheques, galleries and museums that have made it one of the most popular locations in the west of Denmark. Visit the Koldinghus Castle or Trapholt museum for a culture boost, take a walk on the beach or try windsurfing if you're of the adventurous kind. With its splendid sports areas, beautiful countyside, and many organised social events Kolding will surtainly never bore you.

The International business Academy manages some accommodation in Kolding that is rented out directly to international exchange students. The number of these apartments is limited and they are allocated on a strictly first come first served’ basis. These apartments are not nescesarily furnished but in Kolding there are several places where you can buy second hand furniture and kitchen utensils.

Other accommodation opportunities for students in Kolding are generally good. The cost will vary according to a number of factors. You should expect to pay about 2,500 dkk per month for single accommodation, and less if you are sharing. Accommodation is mostly let unfurnished, but it should be possible to buy new or used furniture/kitchen utensils for around 3000-4000 dkk.

When you get your apartment you must sign a binding contract and when you want to move out you must give notice to the landlord 3 three months in advance before the first of a month. You pay a fixed amount every month for heating, electricity and water (heating and water is probably included in the rent, you can see that in your contract). But you must know that if you use too much you must cover the missing amount. If you choose to have a TV, PC or mobile, you’ll need to buy a radio/tv licence.

The IBA will gladly assist you with finding accommodation and apply for an apartment on your behalf. The “apartment application system“ is a database run by Kolding City administration for students in Kolding. You will receive one offer through the school once we have received the offer through the database, if you do not accept the offer you must find accomodation yourself.
